The Jasper Civitan Club is a volunteer organization consisting of individuals who have a primary interest in helping the developmentally disabled in our community. We are also interested in all subject matter related to making our town a better place to live and keeping our community informed.
The Jasper Civitan Club is located in the heart of Walker County with a total population of approximately 15,000 people. We are a group of men and women of all ages who each have a desire to help the less fortunate. We welcome anyone who would like to visit our club. We meet the first and third Tuesdays of every month at the Bevill State Cafeteria from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. We have guest speakers attend and lunch is included.
Tuesday, August 17th - Elizabeth McDowell came to our meeting as her last time as the Governor of the North Alabama District. She did the installation of officers for the 2010-2011 year and did a wonderful, cermoniously job! She spoke of the past year and things to look forward to next year. Gov. McDowell brought a slide show of pictures from the District Convention in Chattanooga.
Joanna Brand was named as the Jasper Civitan Citizen of the Year! She deserves this award for all her hard work and dedication as our Sec/Treasurer. She is an extremely thorough Civitan, is easy to work with and a great assest to our club!
We attended the AL District North Convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee from July 30th-August 1st. We had special developmentally disabled singers who could perform like no other. They were an inspiration to us all. A good time was had by all. We will sorely miss our outgoing Governor Elizabeth McDowell, but sincerely welcome our new Governor, Randy Harvell.
