The Gate City Civitan Club has been active for over 50 years. Best known as "Those people who sell the football programs at the Gate City High School football games and sell fruitcakes in the fall", the Gate City Civitan Club uses the proceeds from these two fund raising projects to support numerous projects. Gate City Civitan proudly supports Hope House of Scott County, Imagination Library, Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts of America, and Special Education in Scott County. We sponsor a Junior Civitan Club at Gate City High School/Middle School which gives students a chance to serve their community and experience leadership roles. Gate City's Grogan Park is a special project of the Gate City Civitan Club. The Civitan Playground and Civitan Shelter were built with funds raised by the club and they continue to maintain both the playground and the shelter. Gate City Civitan has been spearheading the development of the Grogan Park expansion by donating over $12,000 to the town for construction of a walking trail and providing matching funds for grants. Gate City Civitans also have fun. We enjoy the fellowship of their club and other clubs in the Appalachian District and Civitan International. We actively participate on the District level by attending district meetings and on the International level by supporting the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Gate City Civitan Club is actively seeking new members. We meet each Thursday evening at 6:30pm at Gate City United Methodist Church. Come and join us! |
