The Arlington Civitan Club is a chapter of Civitan International. The mission of Civitan International is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.

Civitan International was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1917 by a group of business and professional men who joined forces to help improve their community. As word of the group's effectiveness spread, interest in forming similar groups began to grow in other cities. In 1920, an international network of Civitan clubs was formed, and has been active in communities across the world since then.

One of the Arlington club's largest ongoing projects is our monthly community garage sale. The sales have been running since 1986, and have helped us raise thousands of dollars for our charitable efforts. For more information on these events, see our community garage sale page.

If you're interested in learning more about Civitan clubs in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, please come to the Civitan booth at one of our community garage sales. It will be located right next to the snack bar on level B of the parking garage. The Arlington club holds its meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday evening of each month. Our neighboring club in Tyson's Corner meets during the daytime. Other clubs can be found in Fairfax, Leesburg, Winchester, and Warrenton, Virginia.
